is the second largest tortoise of Africa after
the African Spurred Tortoise. They are one of
the most beautiful of the large tortoise. They
are moderately personable, but tend to be relatively
indifferent to their human owners.*
Habitat Predator proof outdoor habits
offer many advantages over indoor accommodations
and should seriously be considered as an option
when they grow up. These large tortoise eventually
require large pens. Basically, their housing and
temperature guidelines are almost the same as African
Spurred Tortoise. Food
Like the African Spurred Tortoise, these herbivores
should be fed high fiber grasses and greens as a
primary component of their diet. Excess protien
in the diet should be strictly avoided. Also avoid
over supplementation with Vitamin D3. Fruit should
be offered very rarely or not at all. Leopard Tortoise
fed on cat or dog foods frequently die from renal
