Flora Viv pH- is a shrimp safe, phosphate free acid buffer. It is designed to lower the pH and the alkalinity (carbonate hardness (KH) or buffering capacity)of freshwater and planted aquariums. When used with Flora Viv KH+ , it will provide for stability of pH over a wide range of conditions. It contains no phosphates ,which often cause cloudiness and unwanted algea growth (many competing products contain 100% phosphates).
Use in Aquarium Keeping:
Proper control of pH and alkalinity are among the most critical functions of maintaing an aquarium.Conyinuum recommends that you maintain a minimum alkalinity level as specified in the difrections.
Direction and Protocols:
For initial setup , if you are using reverse osmosis or deionized water, or if your tap water is very soft, first use Flora viv Reconstitute RO and /or GH+ as directed on the label to adjust the TDS and general hardness and Flora Viv KH+ to increase KH to a minimum of 2 dKH. Then dissolve 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon (about 1 or 2 grams) of this product in 16oz.(500ml) of tank water in a separate container. Add in an area og high flow directly to the aquarium for each 20 gallons (76L) tank capacity, per day until the desired alkalinity and pH is reached. For best results, consult an aquarium keeping book for proper alkalinity levels for the fish you are keeping. If you don't have that information, Continuum recommended 60 to 100ppm or 3 to 5 degrees dKH (German degrees of carbonate hardness or Karbonathaerte) for mixed freshwater fishes or half that for discus and other softwater species. Wait at least 2 hours for pH to stabilize, then measure. Recommended pH is 7.0 to 7.5 for mixed freshwater and 6.2 to 7.0 for discus and softwater species. Adjust pH with appropriate products, if necessary. Wait 2 hours , then retest KH.
